Charlotte County, together with Coastal & Heartland National Estuary Partnership, recently hosted a Climate Vulnerability Assessment Input Meeting. Residents shared thoughts on how our community can better prepare for the impacts of climate change through a real-time interactive survey. This study will help us identify vulnerabilities and shape future policies and investments to protect our homes, businesses, and neighborhoods.  This information, along with other studies, will provide valuable guidance on how we can build a more resilient Charlotte County.  The study wraps up in Spring 2025, and we want to hear from YOU! Take our online survey and share your input at www.tinyurl.com/CharCoVulnerabilityAssessment.

Lung cancer rates have been steadily declining in Florida, mirroring a nationwide trend. This decrease is closely tied to the ongoing reduction in cigarette smoking. According to new Gallup data released this fall, smoking rates have dropped to a historic low, with only 11% of adults reporting they smoked a cigarette in the past week. The most significant factor behind this decline is the dramatic drop in smoking among younger adults, who are increasingly turning away from tobacco. While some young smokers have shifted to e-cigarettes and vaping—both of which carry their own risks, including lung injury and nicotine addiction—the overall decline in smoking presents a positive outlook for the future of lung cancer prevention. With fewer people smoking, public health experts anticipate a continued reduction in lung cancer cases tied to tobacco use. This trend supports the hope that lung cancer will someday no longer be among the top ten deadliest cancers in the U.S. For more information, visit Advocate Radiation Oncology: AdvocateRO.com

My name is Riley Goff, I teach at Port Charlotte High School and coach the varsity softball team. I am writing to request your support as we work to rebuild our softball batting cages following the devastation caused by the hurricanes. Due to the storms and construction on our campus our batting cages have suffered damages that will require the relocation of our batting cages. This will be a major expense for our program.  Please spread the word about our rebuilding efforts or donate, any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for your time and consideration.  https://forms.gle/qXVEZgqaZGnoHR3T7
