    Charlotte Sun Column – September 27, 2017

    September 26, 2017

The location of the Business Card Exchange tomorrow has been changed to the Charlotte Sun’s office on Harborview.  Thank you Charlotte Sun staff for stepping up.  Please bring plenty of business cards to hand out and a small gift to get that extra business name and your face recognition.

Friday is our 92nd Annual Meeting (again this year) Luncheon.  Make sure your name is on the list for a great hour plus of networking and thanking and acknowledging.  Our nominees for businesses of the year are: Bayfront Health Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte; Centennial Bank; Charlotte County Sheriff; Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center; Charlotte Local Education Foundation; Charlotte Players, Inc.; Jaimela Dulaney, MD, PA; Essential Puree; Florida SouthWestern State College; Four Points by Sheraton Punta Gorda; Friendly Floors; Golisano Pediatric Clinic; Homeless Coalition; Integrity Employee Leasing; Nolan Family Insurance; Paulson Centre Executive Office Suites; Port Charlotte Florist; Scotty’s Brewhouse; Security Alarm Corp.; Small Business Development Center; Suncoast One Title & Closings, Inc. and the Stone Crabs & Tampa Bay Rays.  Congratulations to all the nominees.  And, the winners are – each and every one of you!

Outgoing Board members, Jim Carroll, Legal Shield, Carrie Hussey, Charlotte County Human Services, and Jason Lucas, Lucas Law Firm, will get a round of applause for their service to the Chamber and community.  Jim has been the “be there” guy at Chamber event over the years and we hope he’ll continue to be there, just wearing a different name badge.  Carrie has been representing the United Way and the non-profit community on our Board, but with her week old new position, she’s decided to focus on that, same game changer, different team.  And, Jason leaves us after serving in a number of roles, including president.  Jason will tell you how much he enjoyed his time on the Board, especially learning about local government issues.  He’ll be missed, but it’s great to know that he’s only a call or text away.  Thank you all!

Writing of thank yous, I am very grateful to have worked with Alyson Burch, Charlotte State Bank & Trust, during her term as president (and before).  I’ve been trying to figure how best to describe Alyson.  Saying she’s a really nice woman and a true team player doesn’t really suffice. You can see at Chamber events that she enjoys her role, she’s also a people person, and very comfortable in any situation.  When I’ve asked her advice, she’s calm, thoughtful and very supportive.  This coming year, she’ll chair our Government Affairs Committee so we’ll continue to see and learn from this special woman.

And, this is why I always say that I have the best job in Charlotte County.  We have wonderful members and volunteers!
