    Charlotte Sun Column – November 28, 2017

    November 28, 2017

Today is Giving Tuesday, a great reminder to support non-profit organizations who are making a difference in the lives of kids, adults, seniors, animals and philanthropy in general.  Yes, I know you spent money Shopping Charlotte over the weekend, but even a $10. donation to your favorite local charity will help someone in need this holiday season.  You can donate in a safe and secure manner on most websites, or drop a check in the mail or stop by and wish the busy staff a happy holiday season.

Charlotte County has a great Christmas tree next to the Administration Building in Murdock.  The tree faces US 41, across from Applebee’s, and County staff decorates and lights it every year.   Denise Dull, Chamber President, asked if we could share in the holiday festivities and on Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m., we’ll meet at the tree for caroling, cookies and the “official” lighting of the tree.  You can park in the Administration lot and walk over.  Bring your family and friends.  Please join us!

Last call for entries for our 39th Annual Christmas Parade on Sat., Dec. 9.  We’ll step off at noon from the Charlotte Performing Arts Center (next to Charlotte High), head north on Taylor and disband at the Event Center.  The reviewing stand will be in front of Centennial Bank.   For more information, please visit our website or call our Port Charlotte office at 627-2222.

The Downtown Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting celebration will be held on Fri. at 5:00 p.m. in the City Marketplace property.  Punta Gorda Founders’ Week is December 1 through December 7.  Visit www.puntagordafoundersweek.com for a schedule of events.

We still have tickets to the Punta Gorda Garden Club’s 24th annual Holly Days Home Tour Fri. and Sat. from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Punta Gorda Historic District.  I’m a bit of a snoop and love to see other people’s homes, so this is fun!  The Downtown Merchants will have their Tropical Christmas BASH on Dec. 9 from 4 to 9 in front of the historic Courthouse, with music, dancing, food and more.  And, the Homeless Coalition’s 10th Annual Mistletoe Ball, Christmas in Paris, is Dec. 9 at the Event Center, always an enchanted evening.

Please drop off a new, unwrapped toy(s) for Toys for Tots in our Port Charlotte office and for the Fresh Jersey Tomatoes 2nd Annual Toy Drive in our Punta Gorda office.

And, remember when you’re out and about, please Shop Charlotte and support local businesses in your community!  Thank you!
