Just For Fun:

A wife once gave her husband the silent treatment for an entire week. She didn't say anything, she just put it into practice. She was hoping it would make him be more attentive to her and to their marriage.

At the end of the week she decided to bring up subject. "You notice anything different about us this past week?"

Without missing a beat, and without having a clue either, he replied. “Yeah, we’re getting along pretty great lately!”

----

The coach called one of his 9-year-old baseball players aside and asked, "Do you understand what co-operation is? What a team is?"

"Yes, coach", replied the boy.

"Do you understand that what matters is we win or lose as a team?"

The boy nodded in agreement. The coach continued, "I'm sure you know, when an out is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack the umpire, or call him insulting names. Do you understand all that?"

Again, the boy nodded yes. The coach continued, "And when I take you out of the game so that another boy gets a chance to play, it's not good sportsmanship to call your coach dumb, or stupid, or worse, is it?"

"No, coach."

"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain all that to your Grandmother."

The campaign has a fun superhero theme and teaches kids they can save summer from mosquitoes by covering their skin with clothing and repellant before they head outside to play and by spilling the water to keep mosquitoes from breeding.  Charlotte County Healthy Start Coalition would us to share this information with you.

Just For Fun:

YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN FLORIDA IN JULY WHEN. . . .

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron!
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 am.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
Do you have exciting information about YOUR business?  Send it to the Chamber and we'll share it with our other members! Email news about your business to Julie Mathis at jmathis@charlottecountychamber.org.  Please keep it to 90 words or fewer. We reserve the right to publish as well as edit any posting. BOL goes out weekly on Mondays; please email your news by the preceding Friday.

Charlotte Sun Column - July 13, 2016

Today is Networking at Noon at the Nav-A-Gator Grille, just three miles from I-75 at Kings Highway.  You can make a reservation by calling 627-2222.  Please bring a new pair of sneakers for the Kiwanis’ Shoes for Kids project and we’ll enter your name in a drawing for a complimentary future N@N.

Next Wed. is the Candidates’ Forum at the Third Wednesday Coffee.  Candidates running for local and state office have been invited to attend, set up a table with campaign material and meet the voters face to face.  This event is free and open to the public.  Invite your business colleagues, friends and neighbors.  Please join us from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the Event Center in Punta Gorda and meet the candidates.  Many of the races will be decided in the August 30 primary, so now is the time to learn what the candidates are saying about the issues facing our community.  And, if you want to vote in the primary (if you don’t vote, you can’t complain), you should register by Aug. 1.  Please visit www.charlottevotes.com for all you voting information.

The Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center is the host for the July 28 Business Card Exchange.

Now’s the time to sign up for the Aug. 2 New Teachers’ Breakfast, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Event Center.  Sponsor a teacher and tell him/her all about our great community and your great business. And, if you’d like to include something in the “goodie” bags we’ll give to the teachers, please drop off 75 items by July 28 at our Port Charlotte office.

July 28 is just around the corner and if you’re looking at the application that is gathering dust on your desk for the Leadership Charlotte class of 2017 and thinking, I’ll get to it soon, stop procrastinating.  Every day someone tells me they are going to apply but that it’s hard to write about yourself.  I remember when I applied, I wanted to sneak a peek at what others had written, but Teri Ashley (who worked with us then) locked up the completed applications.  Please don’t be the person who walks in the office at 4 p.m. and hands us a handwritten, one legal page application and then wonders why you didn’t get in the class.  It’s worth the time to be part of Leadership Charlotte.

Just For Fun:

A woman had been talking on the phone for about half an hour, and then she hung up.

"Wow," said her husband, "that was short. You usually talk for two hours.

What happened?"

"Wrong number," replied the wife.

--------------

Hearing his wife as she sings, the husband says, "You know dear, when you sing like that I just wish you were on the radio."

The wife smiles and replies, "Wow honey, you think I am that good?"

"No, but at least that way I can change the station or turn it off."

Just For Fun

My wife asked me to buy ORGANIC vegetables from the market. I went and looked around and couldn't find any. So I grabbed an old, tired looking employee and said, "These vegetables are for my wife. Have they been sprayed with any poisonous chemicals?"

The produce guy looked at me and said, "No. You'll have to do that yourself."

----------

A police officer saw a woman knitting as she was driving.

He could not believe his eyes. He yelled at her to pull over.

She rolled down her window and yelled back, "No, it's a scarf!"

Best July 4th ever, 1976 at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington, DC.  Worst July 4th ever, fireworks caught the lot next door on fire and I had to leave the house with an already panicked yellow lab.  Be safe and have fun.  Happy Birthday America!

Despite popular belief (and misleading online marketing), there's no single source from which to obtain criminal records and no nationwide records search available to most employers.  Law enforcement agencies do have a national database available, known as the National Crime Information Center, but most private sector employers are denied access.  However, all crimes are prosecuted in county, state, or federal courts and the original records from those sources are readily available to employers and landlords.  For FCRA-compliant employment screening, contact Doris Hebert-Ferrigno at NRG Background Checks.  941-488-8500;  800-531-6522;  nrginfo@atlantic.net

When I went to get my driver's license renewed, our local motor-vehicle bureau was packed. The line inched along for almost an hour until the man ahead of me finally got his license.

He inspected his photo for a moment and commented to the clerk, "I was standing in line so long, I ended up looking pretty grouchy in this picture."

The clerk looked at his picture closely. "It's okay," he reassured the man, "that's how you're going to look when the cops pull you over anyway."

A defensible background check, completed, documented, and reported in writing by an outside professional, generally costs less than a day's pay for the job the applicant is seeking.  Therefore, the expense of that background check, often the most important item in the recruiting and hiring process, is usually the least expensive item in that process.  And, it's just good business sense to hire applicants whose backgrounds, as represented by themselves, have been professionally and expertly verified.  For FCRA-compliant employment screening, contact Doris Hebert-Ferrigno at NRG Background Checks.  941-488-8500;  800-531-6522;  nrginfo@atlantic.net

Just For Fun

It's Black Friday and the mall is packed with shoppers and Frank can't find his wife. He goes up to a very attractive woman and says, "Excuse me, can you help me? I cannot see my wife, and I know that she is here in the shopping mall somewhere. Can you just talk to me for a couple of minutes?"

The attractive woman replies, "Why?"

Frank replies, "Because every time I talk to a beautiful woman, my wife materializes out of thin air."
