    Changes to the Charlotte County Sign Code were adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 23 that became effective upon adoption. The major change made to the code is the reduction in the size, frequency and timeframe of allowable temporary signage, i.e. banners, flags, pennants, etc.  A copy of the official adopted amendment to the Sign Code can be found online at the Planning & Zoning Division web page or www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov.     Charlotte County Historical Center will be presenting the art history of the Florida Highwaymen in an interactive event. The Highwaymen were a group of twenty-six African-American, self-taught artists specializing in Florida landscape paintings.     The University of Florida Survey Research Center is currently conducting a survey of Charlotte County voters about an extension of the 1 percent local option sales tax in 2020.  Calls will be made to hundreds of randomly selected registered voters. Residents will be asked their opinion on the extension of the current sales tax, as well as their thoughts on potential projects under consideration for funding. The results of the survey will be published on the county website, www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov, in March.

    The Charlotte County Tourist Development Council (TDC) is receiving applications for the 2018 Summer and Annual Event Development Program.  The application is available on-line at www.PureFlorida.com/tdc/edp.  Applications for consideration at the March 2 meeting of the TDC are due no later than February 22 by email to Brynja.Phipps@charlottecountyfl.gov or by personal delivery to 1700 Tamiami Trail, G-2, Port Charlotte.   Applications for review at the May 4 meeting of the TDC, contingent upon available funds (the TDC will continue to receive applications until program funds have been expended) are due no later than April 28.
